    1. Camping sites: the camping sites on the Inca Trail can be different from the ones described in our itinerary (Yuncachimpa, Chaquicocha and Wiñaywayna). This is due to a limitation of the places (Wiñaywayna is almost always fully booked). The camping sites (especially Wiñaywayna) are well known with the public. Therefore they will book their places well in advance (certainly when you want to go in the high season from May to September you have to book months in advance). You will be back in your hotel either at about 18:00hrs or at about 22:00hrs.
    1. Your health: It is a common misconception that because many people do the Inca Trail it must be easy. It is not. The Trail is 45km (26 miles) long and involves great physical exertion to complete. Combined with high altitude and extreme weather the trek can be hard work. Therefore we strongly recommend ensuring that you are well acclimatized, in good shape and healthy. This way you will enjoy your trip from the beginning on. A participant must declare if he/she has any sickness or medical disorder and must bring his/her own medicines.
    1. Weather: The Andean weather can be unpredictable, despite the sharp divide between dry and wet seasons. The dry season runs from May to October or November; the rainy season goes from December through April. Nevertheless, Inca Trail lies in the forested.

    OVERVIEW:

Discover the charming sites of Cusco visiting the most important places of the Cusco region; the beautiful city of Cusco surrounded by several Incan and Colonial buildings. This combination of buildings gives Cusco a magical architecture and style. The mystery of Machu Picchu has been part of the research of several archeologists from all over the world because of its immense Architectural and natural beauty.

CUSCO means ‘’navel of the World’’ in the Inca language – Quechua, has a mostly indigenous population of around 500,000 and is centered around the Plaza de Armas, which is dominated by the Cathedral and La Compañia de Jesus Church. Its cloistered arcades house many fine restaurants, bars and shops. Make the most of your free days in Cusco to explore its amazing churches, colonial buildings and picturesque streets, many of which have Inca walls, arches and doorways. On a hill overlooking the city stands the archaeological park of Sacsayhuaman, where some of the most spectacular Inca walls can be found, including a massive 128 ton stone. There are also many optional excursions and activities available such as white water rafting, horse riding, and mountain biking and canoeing on offer.

Cusco is often referred to as the ‘’Archaeological Capital of the Americas’’ Cusco is a beautiful city riddled with contrasts between the indigenous styles and the modern western world. It is these contrasts that have given Cusco its rare beauty.  Most visitors are keen to get to Machu Picchu; Cusco itself has a lot to offer the visitor and most travellers usually end up seduced with this vibrant city and stay longer than first planned.

Cusco is located at an altitude of 3,360m above sea level; Cusco was referred to as the “Navel of the World”.

When arriving in Cusco from the coast you will immediately notice the thin clear mountain air, a result of the City’s high altitude. The first day in particular should be spent quietly relaxing and taking things easy as you gently acclimatize.

This is an ideal opportunity to see the highlights Cusco has to offer such as a tour of the City, the nearby Inca Ruins of Sacsayhuaman, Qenqo, Puca Pucara and Tambomachay and, of course, a day trip out to the Sacred Valley of the Incas including a visit to the traditional Indian market at Pisac, the beautiful village of Ollantaytambo.

Salkantay Trek to Machu Picchu 5 Day / 4 Nights

    martes, 14 septiembre, 2021 | Definitely Machupicchu Tour | 0 Comentarios

    Highlights

    HIGHLIGHTS:

We have a great 5 days program option, ending at Machu Picchu, having on the last day a full daytime between 07:00 am. until 14:00 hrs. to completely enjoy the great Incan City that means you will see Machu Picchu before the crowded trains arrive, good for pictures of the scenery without all those people and enough time.

His lovely and varied hike (about 50km) is the “soft option” from Soraypampa since the pass is lower (though still a tough 4,600m (15,092ft) and then it is mostly downhill through forested valleys, above deep ravines, ending at 1,500m.

The trek on the second day from Soraypampa goes steeply uphill for half an hour, then comes to a series of zigzags (Siete Culebras is the local name of this strech). At the top of the seventh switchback, the terrain levels out under Salkantay´s lateral moraine, and drops gently down to the small lake of Soirococha. The pass you see above is, alas, a false one; the main pass is a little further on, but the view of Salkantay looming above you more than compensates for the effort. The real pass at 4,600m is reached after 3-4 hours from the moraine, and is marked by a pile of stones , well known as “Apacheta” by the locals, which grows daily as each traveller adds his pebble to thank the APUS for a safe trip.

Then the trail descends to the left hand side of the valley, becoming indistinct in swampy areas. and then comes a place named Huayrajmachay “eye of the wind”, from here we will have a great chance to see the beautiful Pyramid-shape of Humantay behind as you drop below the tree line, known as LA CEJA DE SELVA (“Eyebrow of the Jungle”), and walk through groves of bamboo with many orchids and other flowers and lots of hummingbirds, spectacular waterfalls, a small hot spring at Collpapampa the right place to lock out for the parakeets that abound in this area as well.

Then on the 4th day, we will climb 500m. up From Lucma to Llactapata to enjoy a great lookout point and get a first view of Machu Picchu, then we will go down to Hydroelectric in order to take the local train to Aguas Calientes town where we will spend the night.

Then next morning we will enjoy Machu Picchu (please read our full itinerary below, thanks).

    OVERVIEW:

This amazing trek runs beneath the magnificent Salkantay mountain (6.271m/20575ft), one of the highest and most stunning in the Peruvian Andes.

Your first two days are dominated by the impressive «Apus» of Salkantay and Huamantay, as you pass through the high puna landscape.

On the third day you descend to the warm cloud forest, to reach Aguas Calientes on the fourth day. The impressive Sacred Inca city of Machu Picchu is visited on the last day of the program. This tour is an interesting alternative for those not having found spaces on the Inca Trail trek to Machu Picchu. The Salkantay Trek, was recently named among the 25 best Treks in the World, by National Geographic Adventure Travel Magazine.

This trek perfectly combines the cultural and natural beauty; we will enjoy the magnificent Nevado of Salkantay (4600m / 20575ft)… This is the God of the mountains and you can observe this God in Machu Picchu. This route will bring us back to the time of the Incas, accompanied by the spirits of other mountains, Duch as the Tucarhuay and the Humantay, which peak higher than 5000 meters (16404 ft).

    Overview

    OVERVIEW:

A combination of hiking and a thrilling downhill bike ride, this is a very cool back door entry to the great citadel of Machu Picchu.

Also known as the Tropical Inca Trail or the Inca Jungle trail, this trip is increasingly more popular, particularly the thrilling downhill mountain bike ride and then a trail that takes you through beautiful landscapes with impressive panoramic views and a wide variety of flora and fauna. The tropical Inca trail is recommended for people wanting something different and we offer a unique opportunity to stay with a coffee growing family.

This is the classic “back way” bike ride to Machu Picchu via Santa Maria and Santa Teresa, known as the Inca Jungle or Back Door to Machu Picchu trip. It is not a mountain bike ride in the classic sense as the road is paved; however it is an extremely popular route due to the incredible scenery along the way and for people who wish to avoid the cost and hassle of taking the train.

We will continue along our route until we have reached Alfamayo, where there is a nice paved road in perfect condition that we can use. We will need to take an unpaved road though, in order to continue on in the direction of Santa Maria, which is located at an altitude of 1575 masl. We will take a moment to rest here before continuing on to the small town, Santa Teresa, where a delicious lunch will be awaiting us at approximately 14:00 hrs. There will be a variety of different foods available to suit every taste.

Afterwards, at around 15:45hrs we will return to the route in the direction of the train station at the nearby Hydroelectric Plant. The train will have us in Aguas Calientes by 19:30hrs at which point you will be taken to the designated hostals and hotels.

If we have any extra time, we can also go take a relaxing dip in the natural, heated waters of the hot baths. At 20:00hrs, though, it will be time to enjoy a hearty dinner along with the guide who will be taking you to the ancient citadel, Machu Picchu. At that time, he will have a chance to go over the plan for the following day and answer any questions. Overnight.
