    ARRIVAL IN CUSCO / CITY TOUR: SACSAYHUAMAN & NEARBY RUINS.

    The rest of the morning is free to rest and get acclimatize to the altitude.

    In the afternoon, around 13:30hrs we will pick you up and will take you on a city tour of Cusco; we are going to visit the Imperial City, living example of the mixture of the Andean and Spanish cultures.

    We start our trip visiting the cathedral, the Temple of the Sun or Qoriqancha, actually Santo Domingo Convent a place that housed inside one of the most important religious centers of the Inca period and ancient Inca palace and main worship center of the Sun God. Going on with the tour, the tour moved to the outskirts of the city to the magnificent Sacsayhuaman (head of Puma), which domains the city, built strategically on a hill overlooking Cusco; famous for its enormous carved stones joined with astounding precision to form the outer walls. Some of these stones stand over 9m/3oft.tall and weight over 128 tons; just 200 meters from Sacsayhuaman is our next destination Qenqo (ceremonial site) religious center dedicated to the worship earth and funerary rituals. Puca Pucara (the red fortress) that was use as a center for military use and control, as well as a place to stop for the travelers from the Inca period.

    Our ultimate destination located just 100 meters from Puca Pucara. Tambomachay (temple of water) was use as a center of worship of water.

    When we finish the tour, we are going to come back to Cusco.

    Itinerary

    SACRED VALLEY OF THE INCAS: PISAC, PISAC MARKET, URUBAMBA, OLLANTAYTAMBO AND CHINCHERO.

    We will pick you up at approximately 07:30 am. from the hotel close to the main square and we will on a one hour drive towards the Sacred Valley of the Incas, taking the direct route to Pisac, the entrance to the Sacred Valley of the Incas.

    We will stop on the way to have a classic view of the Urubamba valley with crops dressing the mountains like carpets. Then, we will arrive to the Pisac town, we will continue going to the Pisac ruins where we will have a guided tour; after the tour, we will down to the Pisac market, we will arrive to the colorful market, where we will have free time to interact with the local craftsmen or to purchase their hand-made souvenirs.

    Around lunchtime, we will stop in Urubamba town, the capital of the Sacred Valley, to feast on local cuisine, before heading further into the Sacred Valley. We’ll stop at a chicheria along the way, where you can sample the local drink chicha (corn beer).

    We will continue our Sacred Valley tour with a visit to the attractive town of Inca origin with remarkable channels and stone streets; we will visit the nearby archaeological site Ollantaytambo, In its high part one rises to an impressive ceremonial center of cult to the water and a fortress that guarded the access to the inferior part of the valley, for insight into the Incan past and magnificent views. Once here, we will set out on foot to go beyond the traditional sites and explore smaller ancient streets.

    Finally, a quick stop at the Quechua village of Chinchero on the way back to Cusco.

    Then, we will return to Cusco, arriving at approximately 18:45 hrs.

    Itinerary

    SOUTHERN VALLEY TOUR: TIPON – PIKILLACTA and ANDAHUAYLILLAS.

    We will pick you up from the Hotel at 08:30am. to drive past San Geronimo to Tipon, visiting these incredible places in the southern of Cusco.
    Here, we will see the colonial home of Marques Valleumbrocio. We will then continue to the Inca ruins of Tipon. Considered one of the most important ruins, it lies about 23km south of Cusco.

    Moving on, we will visit the Oropesa town which is famous for Chutas bread.

    TIPON: is said to be a royal garden commissioned by Wiracocha. It is one of the most elaborate examples of agricultural terracing created by the Incas. These tall terraces which run up the narrow valley are irrigated by an aqueduct from Pachatusan, the mountain above the site. In addition to the terracing there are also some other structures at Tipon, including baths, a temple complex, canals and aqueducts. Tipon is definitely one of the lesser visited sites in the Cusco area but it is equally as impressive as those in the Sacred Valley. The Tipon Archeological Complex is located 24 km southeast of Cusco.

    PIKILLAQTA: is the only pre-Inca site in the Cusco area. This adobe complex was built around 700 to 900 years AD by the Wari Culture, in the area, there is a small Inca site just a short walk from Pikillacta, known as Rumicolca, a travel checkpoint for the Incas.

    ANDAHUAYLILLAS: Here you find the «Sixtine Chapel of Peru», a church that is home to golden altars, paintings and many colored ceilings. The chapel is simple and unassuming on the outside, but on the inside you’ll find masterpiece after masterpiece. Also, some paintings from famous “Escuela Cusqueña” can be appreciated.
    On the return, pass Saylla typical Cusco where people can enjoy the delicious pork chicharrones, or roasted ginea pig (optional).

    After the tour, we are going back to Cusco for approximately at 14:00 hrs.

    Itinerary

    MARAS – MORAY AND SALINERAS TOUR.

    We will pick up from your hotel at approximately 08:30am. by private car to we will drive towards to Moray.

    We will arrive at the Archaeological Park of Moray, where you stay for about 20 minutes to enjoy the beauty of nature and the unusual Inca terraces. This part of the tour is very attractive because of its rolling hills.

    Continuing our trip, you arrive at the village of Maras.

    After our ride in Maras, you will feel the peace of the Andean countryside and enjoy your freedom.

    You continue your ride to the terraces of salt pans below Maras, where we end our magnificent tour at approximately 14:00 hrs. Your vehicle will be there to take you back to your hotel in Cusco or the Sacred Valley.

    MORAY, a further breathtaking 20 kms drive with the beautiful snowcapped Chicon and Veronica mountains in the Cordillera Vilcanota as a backdrop we continue through to Moray.

    In Moray we will visit “the Inca agricultural greenhouse or laboratory”, consisting of four platforms amphitheater style or. Has a depth of 150 meters, the overlapping concentric circular stone rings widen as they rise. It was an experimental place to study the adaptation of plants to new ecosystems.

    MARAS AND SALINERAS (SALT MINE).
    Located 7 miles from Moray at altitude of 3, 380m is a small village, as a model of a miniature city. Famous for its salt mine, made up of about 3000 small wells with an area average size of about 5 ms ². These were already exploited since Inca times as a means of economic exchange and securities. Very interesting to see how the salt is recovered from these mines and the lives of those who work here.

    The salt mine, it´s consisting of platforms based on pools of salt water that comes from Pre Inca, Inca, Colonial and contemporary, today the people of Maras continue to work on the exploitation of salt.

    This place becomes a prime attraction for the tourists. When we finish the tour, we are going to come back to Cusco.

Well rested, we get back on our bikes and cycle along a relatively flat route to Lampa. The sleepy town is popularly known as the «Pink City» because it was built of bright pink tuff.     Day 7: Lampa – Ayaviri

    The stage of the king takes us along a lonely stretch towards the virgin interior. Along a dirt road, we pass small settlements to our destination today, the two double passes up to 4600m. We will then be rewarded with a wonderful descent past the famous Puya Raimondis, which can be up to ten meters high and grow into the imposing landscape of the Tinajan Canyon.     Day 8: Ayaviri – Sicuani

    Day 9: Sicuani – Andahuaylillas

    This stage takes you through a beautiful and flat stretch towards the Sacred Valley. The Temple of Raqchi, one of the most important archaeological sites in Peru, is a welcome tourist stop. After a short ascent to the port, the route continues along a paved side road with wonderful views of the many lagoons along the way. A short bus transfer takes us to Andahuaylillas, where we admire the «Sistine Chapel of South America». We spend the night in a cozy hacienda in Andahuaylillas. [B/L/D]

    Day 10: Andahuaylillas – Pisac

    A short stage takes us from Andahuaylillas to Pisac, an ancient mountain fortress of the Incas in Peru. We visit the historic walls of the impressive settlement on foot and by bike.     Day 11: Pisac – Ollantaytambo

    A small transfer takes us today to Chinchero. A wonderful place known for its textile crafts. After sightseeing, a scenic route takes us past the huge Inca greenhouses in Moray and back into the fertile Urubamba Valley. In the most beautiful light of the afternoon we arrive at Ollantaytambo. The lively city, whose planning dates back to Inca times, will be explored at night. Your hotel is on the outskirts of the city.

    Day 12: Ollantaytambo – Santa Teresa

    A transfer takes us to the Abra Malaga Pass at 4315m Enjoy a 70km long descent in subtropical regions to Santa Maria – 3000m descent from the pass to the village – small contra climbs included! The road winds from the snow-capped mountains of the Andes to the tropical jungle. Pineapple, mango, and papaya plantations line the road and thrive alongside coffee, coca, and tea. The vertiginous descent is followed by a demanding ascent: we ascend a good 700 meters in altitude before reaching the top. From here we ride comfortably downhill to Santa Teresa.     Day 13: Hot Waters

    The bikes are packed and we march with luggage to the “Hydroelectric” train station for one night. From here the trains leave for Aguas Calientes, 2000 m, at the foot of Machu Picchu, a World Heritage Site by UNESCO. In the lively town you will find a wide variety of restaurants and souvenir shops. A market near the train station invites you to go shopping.     Day 14: Machu Picchu

    The walk through Machu Picchu early in the morning is quite an experience: you walk in the footsteps of the Incas through the «Lost City», which was only discovered in 1911 and is now a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of the the new seven wonders of the world.
