OVERVIEW:

Huchuy Qosqo complex lies perched over the Sacred Valley of the Incas and, after Pisac and Ollantaytambo, it´s the largest Inca archaeological center of the Valley.

This construction is earlier than Pisac and Ollantaytambo, since it was built along the Inca Trail of Peru. When the Chancas, the Incas’ rival people, threatened Cusco in 1438, the Inca abandoned the capital and took refuge in this Palace, Huchuy Qosqo, or small Cusco.

During the Spanish conquest, Gonzalo Pizarro found an Inca mummy on the site of Huchuy Qosqo and ordered it to be burned. The descendants of the Inca recovered the ashes and retained them in a ballot box that was discovered in the years after.

This Inca site can be reached on foot; we can give you the opportunity to discover this wonderful place, showing you two options of small treks without any kind of difficulty.

One will take you to the discovery of several archeological sites and typical villages of the Sacred Valley of the Incas, and the other one takes you to the sanctuary of Machu Picchu as the ending point before coming back to Cusco.

DAY 1: CHINCHERO (VALLEY OF CUPER) – PUCAMARCA – HUCHUY QOSQO.

We will begin our journey by departing Cusco by car, in the direction of the Inca Site known as Chinchero (3760 m.). From here, we will begin our trek up the road as it curves sharply uphill to reach a pass of nearly 4200 m.

We will continue to follow the trail down into the valley and towards the small community at the bottom. As we descend along the trail, you will see a beautifully green valley stretching out as far as the eye can see. Passing through the village, the trail takes us up over the second pass (4300 m.) and into high open country.

On the way, we will pass by the beautiful Qoricocha Lake (Golden Lake in Quechua).

We will continue along this rustic trail, with its stellar views of the surrounding mountain ranges.

Finally, we will descend towards the Huchuy Qosqo (3650 m), where we will arrive in the late afternoon.

Here, we will set up camp and enjoy our supper underneath the great starry sky.

Climate: Moderately warm.

Hiking time: 6 hours.

DAY 2: HUCHUY QOSQO – LAMAY – MARAS MORAY – SALINERAS.

Huchuy Qosqo is perched above the Urubamba Valley, overlooking the little town of Lamay, which is a town dedicated to agriculture and raising cattle.

Huchuy Qosqo was originally an administrative center, where the Inca buildings were made of stone and adobe, which is a great example of Inca-style perfectly fitted stones. Continuing along this magnificent path, with Pitusiray looming above us, we will eventually pass an Inca stone and adobe gateway. This was the entrance to the ruins of Huchuy Qosqo for people who climbed up from the Urubamba Valley.
Our private transport will pick us up from Lamay drove to Maras Moray, the Salt Mine, and Chinchero, where we will visit the Inca sites and also the colonial town.

We will be back in Cusco at around 18:00 hrs.

• Transfer in private transport from your hotel in Cusco to Chinchero (starting point of the trek).
• Private transport from Lamay to Maras Moray, Salt Mine, and Cusco.

WHAT IS NOT INCLUDED:

• Breakfast on the first day and dinner on the last day.

WHAT DO I NEED TO BRING:

• Backpack for medium to large with rain cover.
• Sleeping bag (in case you have not, you can rent one in Cusco).
• Suitable shoes for trekking
• Raincoat (may be purchased in Cusco).
• Clothing for warm and cold climates, like a waterproof jacket, rain pants, and Lightweight pants.
• Woolen or synthetic socks and a sweater.
• Long- and short sleeved polo´s/T-Shirts.
•  Rain poncho and a hat.
• Water bottle and sterilizing tablets, toiletries, and toilet paper.
• Flashlight (we recommend two pairs of batteries).
• Sunscreen and insect repellent, disinfecting alcohol and gel.
• Some snacks like Chocolate bars and dried fruit, sweets, etc.
• Personal things and a towel.
• Original passport, original ISIC student card, and extra money in soles.
• Camera (wrapped in a plastic bag), batteries, etc.
•  Since the weather can be very cold, your clothes, once gotten wet, won’t dry at night. So take some clothes to change.

IMPORTANT:

•  Your passport details are required for the Huchuy Qosqo trek with Maras, Moray and Salineras (Full Name and Passport Number). Please provide your passport details in the additional request box when booking. In the event you do not provide your passport details, we reserve the right to not confirm your arrangements.
• At 7:00 pm the day before, you will have a briefing with a guide about the tour to Machu Picchu in the lobby of your hotel (please provide hotel details).

PAYMENT DETAILS:

For this tour, we require a Prepayment (60%) of the total, payable via a secure online payment link that we will send you. Please note that an additional 5% fee will be charged to cover the cost of the payment link. On the day of the tour, you must pay the remaining balance in cash. We accept both US Dollars and Peruvian Soles (local currency).

NOTE: We can assist you in purchasing your flight tickets from Lima to Cusco. We are happy to customize your trip. You may combine the existing packages with your desires to create your perfect itinerary. Alternatively, complete the form below with your requests, giving us as much detail as possible, and we will provide a tailor-made itinerary.

CONDITIONS & TERMS:

• Please note that the program deposit is non-refundable. The deposit is used to purchase the entrance ticket to Machu Picchu and to book the train ticket and hostels. Moreover, once a space is purchased, it cannot be resold.
• Finders Peru will not give any refunds if a participant decides to cancel the trip prior to departure or during the trip (except for the entrances to the archaeological sites and the bus/train tickets).
• If Finders Peru doesn’t confirm the reservation, your payment will be refunded totally.
• All participants have to carry their own backpacks, including a sleeping bag and mattresses, unless they booked an extra porter or the service includes porters, horsemen, or mules.
• This is not a simple walk; it is an adventure. The first day can be stressful for some people. Before this can have problems with altitude, must be prepared for eventualities how are you headaches, heart palpitations, shortness of breath, and even vomiting.
• A participant must declare if he/she has any sickness or medical disorder and must bring his/her own medicines (If you have any health problem that depends on some special attention, we recommend that you do not do the trek, because for at least two days we will be outside of any care you may want).
• You must be in Cusco at least 2 days before the departure date of the tour. This is just to confirm your presence and also to allow for basic acclimatization before starting our adventure.
• All participants must bring their original passport and, if available, their original student “ISIC GREEN” card.
• All clients must have personal travel insurance. This insurance must cover personal accident, medical expenses, loss of effects, and all other expenses, which might arise as a result of loss, damage, or injury occurring to the client. Finders Peru can´t be accounted for any accident or loss of personal belongings the customer caused by his/her own.
• In case force majeure occurs, like impossibility to operate the program or trek due to unusual or unforeseen circumstances outside Finders Peru’s control, like: extreme weather conditions, landslides, strikes not allowing operation or putting it at risk, sudden inaccessibility of route, etc. Finders Peru will propose viable solutions to operate the program within the available dates or if impossible, will then propose an alternative program. If the alternative program chosen by the client is of lower value than that originally booked, then the client is entitled to a refund of the price difference. All costs incurred will be at the expense of the client. In case none of these would be feasible, Finders Peru would refund all the money paid except for all the incurred expenses so far.
• Everything that you don´t take on the tour can be left at our office in Cusco or the Hotel. Since our office has a warehouse.
